Mercedes GLA diesel brake pedal feedback
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Mercedes GLA owner experienced unusual brake pedal feedback and suspected issues with the brake pads or hydraulic brakes. Another person suggested that the problem might be due to low voltage affecting the electronic stability program, which can interfere with the ABS and braking systems. After checking the vehicle, it was confirmed that undervoltage was the cause, and replacing the battery and changing the brake fluid resolved the issue.

Interesting thought! I hadn't considered the battery. So, you really think undervoltage could cause that kind of brake pedal feel? I was leaning towards metal brakes or something more mechanical...

Affirmative, in my scenario, the peculiar brake pedal feedback vanished entirely after addressing the voltage concern. While mechanical issues like worn brake pads or issues with the disc brakes are possible culprits, the undervoltage situation is certainly worth investigating, especially given the electronic complexity of modern braking systems. I would recommend having a qualified technician examine your vehicle's electrical system. Best of luck.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out, the undervoltage was messing with the braking system. They replaced the battery, and also did a brake fluid change. Total cost was 240€, and the brakes feel normal again. Cheers!

It is quite possible that your brake issue stems from low voltage. I experienced a similar situation with my GLA; the symptoms you describe align with my experience. The electronic stability program relies on consistent voltage. When voltage fluctuates, it can interfere with the proper function of the ABS and other braking systems. Have you checked your battery recently? How old is the brake fluid?
