Mercedes GLC Height Control Issue

My Mercedes GLC 2019 diesel shows a 'Height control restricted' warning. The low beams are pointing strangely, and the ride is bumpier. The front seems lower than the rear. My OBD reader shows an air suspension error. I suspect a leveling sensor or defective control rod. Any similar experiences? What should the load sensor output? Could this be a software problem?

Sounds familiar. I had the same issue on my old Volvo. It was a faulty height sensor on the rear axle. Check the wiring and connectors first for looseness or corrosion. If not, the sensor itself might be the problem. It's like a potentiometer that tells the car its height. Wrong readings cause compensation, leading to uneven height and ride issues. Does the error message specify a sensor?

The error code is a general 'height control malfunction'. Where was the leveling sensor on your Volvo? Any tips on testing the sensor? I have a multimeter and could check resistance or voltage, but I don't know the expected values.

On the Volvo, the leveling sensor was attached to the rear axle, near the suspension arm. I didn't test it myself, I took it to a workshop. They have tools to pinpoint the faulty sensor. DIY isn't always worth it, especially with air suspension. High pressures can be dangerous. Get it checked professionally first.

I took your advice and brought it in. It was a defective control rod on the leveling sensor, like I thought. They replaced the rod, recalibrated the air suspension, and the error is gone. The ride height is normal and the headlights are fine. The total cost was 110€. Thanks for the help!
