Mercedes GLC Transmission Sensor Overheating

I'm encountering an issue with my 2023 Mercedes GLC diesel, mileage currently at 299523 km. The engine warning light is illuminated, and intermittently the transmission warning light appears. Error memory indicates a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. This manifests as the gearbox entering emergency mode at times, accompanied by noticeable slipping and unclean shifts. Occasionally, I even detect grinding noises during gear changes. I suspect the gearbox oil level might be low. Before I investigate, has anyone else dealt with similar transmission sensor overheating problems on this generation of GLC?

The symptoms you describe are consistent with a failing transmission sensor. Before replacing the sensor, it is imperative to verify the transmission oil level. Low oil will cause overheating and sensor malfunction. Have you confirmed the oil level is within specification using the correct dipstick or fill level procedure?

Thanks for the rapid response. I haven't checked the transmission oil level yet, as I wanted to gather some initial perspectives. Can you elaborate on the 'correct dipstick or fill level procedure' you mentioned? I'm aware that some Mercedes models have specific procedures for checking the transmission oil, and I want to ensure I'm following the proper steps to avoid any misinterpretations.

The 725.0 transmission in your 2023 GLC requires a specific dipstick tool for checking the oil level, it is not a visual check. Furthermore, the oil temperature must be within a specified range during the check to obtain an accurate reading. Given the complexity and potential for error, I recommend a qualified workshop perform the oil level check and sensor diagnosis. Continuing to operate the vehicle in its current state may lead to more extensive and costly transmission damage.

Understood. I appreciate the clarification regarding the oil level check procedure and the potential risks of continued operation. I'll schedule an appointment with a reputable workshop to have the transmission oil level checked and the transmission sensor issue properly diagnosed. The transmission sensor was faulty, and after replacement and fluid flush the issue was resolved. Total repair cost was 365€. Thanks again for your guidance.
