Mercedes GLE Diesel Parking Heater Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Mercedes GLE diesel's parking heater fails to activate, displaying an error message suggesting a glow plug issue. The glow plug is crucial for initiating the heater's combustion process, and a fault here can prevent ignition. Before proceeding with repairs, checking the wiring and connections is advised, as loose or corroded connections can mimic glow plug failure. Ultimately, the glow plug was confirmed as the issue, and replacing it resolved the problem, restoring the heater's functionality.

Okay, that's helpful I don't have a multimeter but I could probably borrow one The error message isn't specific, just says something generic like 'Auxiliary heater malfunction' If the wiring looks okay, is there any chance it could be something else, like the auxiliary heater control unit itself or maybe some kind of temperature sensor issue messing with the heating system

While a faulty control unit is possible, it's less likely than a glow plug failure given the mileage and the error code pointing in that direction A temperature sensor issue could potentially cause problems, but usually those present with different symptoms, like overheating or the heater shutting off prematurely rather than failing to start at all Since the error is generic I still think it's worth getting the glow plug checked out If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, taking it to a workshop for a diagnostic is probably your best bet before throwing parts at it

Thanks a bunch for the advice I ended up taking it to a shop Turns out, it WAS the glow plug like you suspected They replaced it, cleared the error code, and the auxiliary heater is now working perfectly Cost me around 450€, so pretty much what I expected Appreciate the help

A defective glow plug is a very plausible cause for your auxiliary heater malfunction The system relies on the glow plug to initiate the combustion process within the heater If it's faulty, the heater won't ignite, and that error will pop up Before you commit to the repair, it might be wise to check the wiring and connection to the glow plug itself A loose or corroded connection can sometimes mimic a faulty glow plug Do you have access to a multimeter to test the glow plug's resistance Also, is the error message specific about which glow plug is at fault, or is it a more general error
