Mercedes GLE Hybrid Fuel Consumption Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mercedes GLE Hybrid was experiencing increased fuel consumption, power loss, stalling, and smoke during acceleration. These symptoms suggested a problem with the fuel injection system, possibly due to a faulty electrical connection. A check engine light was also present, indicating a potential issue. Upon inspection at a workshop, a loose and corroded connector on one of the injectors was identified and repaired, resolving the fuel performance issues.

Yeah, the check engine light is on, but honestly, it's been on for ages I thought it was an oxygen sensor thing from a long time ago Do you think an electrical issue in the injection system can really cause all those fuel problems Is there anything I can check myself before taking it to a mechanic

Yes, a faulty electrical connection can definitely wreak havoc on the fuel injection system, leading to all the symptoms you're experiencing Modern injection systems rely heavily on precise electronic control While you could visually inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors related to the fuel injectors for obvious damage or corrosion, diagnosing the precise fault requires specialized tools and knowledge Given the complexity and the potential for further damage, I would strongly advise getting it checked at a qualified workshop A diagnostic scan will pinpoint the exact issue

Thanks I appreciate the advice I took it to the shop, and you were spot on Turns out a connector on one of the injectors was loose and corroded, just like you suspected They cleaned it up and replaced a short section of damaged wire It cost me 95€, which is a lot better than replacing the whole injection system Fuel performance is back to normal No more smoke or stalling

The symptoms you describe, higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, stalling, and smoke, strongly suggest an issue within the fuel injection system Given that your vehicle is a hybrid, the system could be more complex than a traditional gasoline engine A defective cable or plug connection to an injector could cause these problems I remember seeing similar performance issues on older M-Class models with corroded sensor wiring Have you noticed any check engine light or system error messages on the dashboard
