Mercedes GLK airbag SRS light constantly on
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Mercedes GLK owner reported a persistent airbag SRS light issue, despite checking the fuses. The problem was likely due to defective cable or plug connections within the Supplemental Restraint System. I haven't had any airbag recall notices for it. I'm not a mechanic, so how would I check for those defective cable or plug connections? Is it something I could realistically do myself?

While a visual inspection of accessible wiring and connectors is feasible, diagnosing SRS faults necessitates specialized diagnostic equipment. Incorrect handling of SRS components carries significant risk of unintended airbag deployment, potentially causing injury. Given your stated level of expertise, I strongly recommend entrusting this matter to a qualified automotive technician. The cost for a professional diagnostic assessment and subsequent airbag repair is estimated at 95€.

Understood, thanks. I appreciate the advice. I'll book it in with a workshop to get it sorted. I didn't want to risk making things worse. They confirmed the plug connection was defective and replaced it. All good now!

The illumination of the SRS light indicates a fault within the Supplemental Restraint System. While fuse integrity is a basic check, the underlying cause is likely more complex. Defective cable or plug connections on components can indeed trigger such warnings. Has the vehicle been subject to any prior airbag recall notices? Before proceeding with any intrusive diagnostics, it is advisable to consult the vehicle's service history and technical bulletins.
