Mercedes GLK Diesel Engine Trouble
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mercedes GLK Diesel experienced poor starting and reduced power, with a stored error suggesting a potential camshaft sensor failure. This issue could cause timing problems and rough idling, triggering the check engine light. It was advised to check both the camshaft and crankshaft sensors, inspect wiring, and perform continuity testing. Ultimately, a certified workshop confirmed a defective camshaft sensor, which was replaced, resolving the engine issues.

I haven't checked the crankshaft position sensor, but I will. I'll get the error code soon. The visual inspection of the cable and plug didn't show damage, but there was no continuity testing. Does the lack of a crankshaft sensor error code rule it out?

The absence of a specific crankshaft sensor error code doesn't eliminate it. Intermittent faults can occur without a code. Prioritize continuity testing on the camshaft sensor wiring. If the wiring is sound and the error persists, consider replacing the camshaft sensor. If you're not comfortable with the repairs, take it to a qualified workshop.

I brought the car to a certified Mercedes-Benz workshop. It was a defective camshaft sensor. The cable and plug connections were fine. The sensor was replaced, and the engine runs well now. Thanks for the help.

Those symptoms do point to a potential camshaft sensor issue. Before replacing it, check the crankshaft position sensor, as problems there can mimic camshaft sensor symptoms. What's the exact error code? Also, was the cable and plug visually inspected and tested for continuity?
