Mercedes GLK diesel throttle valve issue
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Mercedes GLK diesel with 223,662 km was experiencing poor fuel efficiency and rough starts, suspected to be due to a defective throttle valve. The issue was initially thought to be related to the accelerator pedal module. After taking the vehicle to a workshop, it was confirmed that the accelerator pedal module was indeed causing the throttle valve issue. Once repaired, the vehicle's fuel efficiency and starting performance returned to normal.

Throttle cleaning, huh? I've heard of it, but never actually done it. Is it something I can do myself, or am I better off just taking it to a mechanic? Could that really cause this drastic of a change in fuel consumption? I'm wondering about the accelerator pedal module because I saw something about that online.

Cleaning the throttle body might help slightly, but if you suspect the accelerator pedal module, and you're already seeing significant fuel efficiency loss and rough starts, you're probably dealing with a bigger issue. Honestly, at that mileage, it's probably best to get it checked out by a workshop. They can properly diagnose the throttle position sensor and the entire air intake system. Why risk making it worse?

Okay, thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right. It was the accelerator pedal module causing the throttle valve issue. Cost me 205€ to get it sorted. Fuel efficiency is back to normal, and it starts like a dream now!

Rough starts and poor fuel efficiency, huh? Sounds familiar! I've got a GLK myself. I had a similar problem a while back. Did you check the throttle body? A dirty throttle body can mess with the throttle position and air intake, causing all sorts of issues. Have you tried throttle cleaning yet? Is the engine light on?
