Mercedes GLS Diesel 2021: bumpy ride, high consumption and black smoke

Hi guys, I'm having trouble with my 2021 Mercedes GLS Diesel (148679 km on it). It's really not running smoothly. It jerks when accelerating, sucks fuel without end and emits black smoke when accelerating, plus the check engine light is on. The performance is also pretty much shot. I think the problem could be the lambda sensor. Have any of you had similar experiences and can report on your garage visits? Would be super grateful for a few tips! Best regards

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Mercedes GLS Diesel is experiencing a bumpy ride, high fuel consumption, black smoke during acceleration, and a check engine light. The initial suspicion is a faulty lambda sensor. However, another user suggests that similar symptoms in their vehicle were due to a leaking exhaust, which was resolved by replacing it. It is recommended to check the exhaust system before addressing the lambda sensor, as this might solve the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2018 Mercedes E-Class diesel. But mine was the exhaust leaking. Showed pretty similar symptoms to yours, except I didn't have any smoke coming out. Think about it before you decide on the lambda sensor. The jerking when accelerating and the high fuel consumption on mine were definitely due to the leaking exhaust. Finally had to go to the workshop. After a thorough check, it was clear that the exhaust was leaking and had to be replaced. It wasn't fun, but it solved the problem. They now ride like a dream again. So before you put a lot of time and effort into troubleshooting, have it checked. Maybe it's the same for you. Hope this helps you a little. Best regards.

Hey, thanks for the input. I would never have thought that the exhaust could be the problem, but thinking about it, what you say makes sense about my symptoms. Will definitely have it checked by the garage before I start tinkering with the lambda sensor. Do you remember how much the repair cost you? And have you had any other problems since then or has your E-Class been running smoothly since then? Best regards.

Hey, I'm glad I could help. After the exhaust was repaired in the workshop, the lambda sensor was actually the problem for me. But since the mechanic fixed it, everything has been running smoothly again. The exhaust repair cost me €265. Since then I've had no more problems and my E-Class is running like clockwork again. I hope this solves your problem too. Let me know how it goes! Regards.

Hey, thanks for the information. 265 is a bit more than I expected, but if it solves my problem, it's worth it. I'll follow your advice and have the exhaust checked first before I go for the lambda sensor. I hope that's the case for me too. I'll get back to you as soon as I have news from the mechanic. See you then and thanks again! Best regards.

Hi, what can I do to solve this problem and the car does not idle correctly oscillates error code P013326

The error code P013326 is related to the oxygen sensor circuit. It could be due to a faulty oxygen sensor, a damaged or leaking exhaust system, or a problem with the fuel pressure. I would recommend starting with the easiest check, which is inspecting the oxygen sensor for any visible damage or loose connections. If you don't find any issues there, you might want to check the exhaust system for leaks. If the problem persists, it would be best to have a mechanic check the fuel pressure. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
