Mercedes GLS engine stalling problem solved
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Mercedes GLS was experiencing engine stalling, rough idle, and a check engine light, with a diagnostic code indicating an air valve issue. The problem was suspected to be a vacuum leak, potentially from a defective hose connection. After inspecting the hoses, a cracked hose causing the vacuum leak was identified and replaced, resolving the stalling and idle issues, and clearing the check engine light.

I checked the hoses visually but how can I be absolutely sure it's a vacuum leak Are there any tricks to pinpoint the exact location without tearing everything apart

Pinpointing a vacuum leak can be challenging without specialized equipment The hose connection from pump to valve is a very plausible cause In my case the problem was similar To avoid further complications I would recommend consulting a qualified workshop

I understand your frustration I had a similar experience with my older Volvo The symptoms you describe strongly suggest a vacuum leak Have you inspected all the vacuum hoses thoroughly paying close attention to any cracks or brittleness
