Can you explain how a vacuum leak might cause the bypass valve error? I want to understand how the stored error code and engine overheating are related.

A vacuum leak could disrupt the air-fuel mixture. The engine control unit (ECU) might try to compensate by adjusting the bypass valve. If the valve can't respond correctly because of the vacuum leak, it could trigger the error code. Since I can't diagnose it remotely, I suggest consulting a qualified Mercedes-Benz technician.

The bypass valve issue was a consequential error from a faulty sensor in the air intake system. Replacing the sensor fixed the overheating and the bypass valve error. The repair cost was negligible, covered by the diagnostic fee. Thanks for the help.

The bypass valve issue and overheating could be secondary symptoms. A malfunctioning bypass valve, which is part of the air intake system, can cause power loss and affect fuel efficiency. Check the vacuum lines connected to the bypass valve actuator for leaks or damage. A bad vacuum system can stop the valve from working right. Also, check the intercooler for blockages, since restricted airflow can also cause engine overheating.
