Mercedes M Klasse Diesel Electrical Issues Resolved

I'm having an issue with my 2015 Mercedes M Klasse diesel It has about 165133 km on the clock I'm getting sporadic error messages sometimes related to the driving mode other times the malfunction indicator lamp illuminates seemingly at random It's also causing various systems mostly audio and navigation to go haywire I've even experienced temporary shutdowns or unresponsive control units I plugged in an OBD-II scanner and it's showing errors in the error memory From what I've gathered it might be a defective cable connection to the BUS system Has anyone experienced anything similar What could be the next steps for engine diagnostics

That sounds like a frustrating situation Sporadic electrical issues can be tricky to diagnose It's like trying to find a short circuit in a complex circuit board You mentioned a possible cable connection issue to the BUS system That's a good starting point Before jumping to conclusions have you checked the battery voltage and the condition of the battery terminals A weak battery or corroded terminals can sometimes cause all sorts of strange electrical gremlins in modern vehicles Also when you say 'errors in the error memory' can you provide the specific error codes Knowing the codes would help narrow down the possibilities and point you to the area that needs further inspection

Thanks for the quick response I'll definitely check the battery voltage and terminals hadn't thought of that As for the error codes could a faulty BUS system connection really cause such a wide range of system failures from audio to driving mode I was under the impression that these systems were somewhat independent

A faulty BUS system connection can indeed cause a wide range of seemingly unrelated system failures Think of the BUS system as the central nervous system of your car It's the communication network that allows all the different control units to talk to each other If there's a break in that communication it can affect anything connected to the network Given the symptoms and the potential cause you mentioned I'd suggest having a qualified technician inspect the cable connections and the BUS system itself It might require specialized diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact location of the fault It sounds like it needs professional attention to properly diagnose and rectify

Thank you for the advice I checked the battery and terminals they seemed fine Given the complexity I took it to a workshop Turns out it was indeed a defective cable connection to the BUS system just as suspected Repair cost was around 155€ All systems are now functioning normally Appreciate the help
