Mercedes M Klasse Diesel Intake Air Temperature Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Mercedes M Klasse diesel experienced a check engine light, reduced power, and rough engine performance, with diagnostic readings indicating a fault in the intake air temperature sensor. The sensor showed incorrect temperature readings, suggesting it was faulty. Replacing the intake air temperature sensor resolved the issues, restoring normal engine function and turning off the check engine light.

The temperature reading seems way off, like -40 degrees when it's clearly not that cold outside. Was your car running rough too? How did you figure out it was definitely the air temperature sensor and not something else?

Yeah, rough running was definitely part of it. The temperature reading being that far off pretty much confirms it. With mine, the reading was just crazy. The simplest thing is probably just replace the intake air temperature sensor. Otherwise take it to a workshop, they can check it quickly.

I replaced the intake air temperature sensor and that seems to have fixed everything. The check engine light is off, power is back to normal, and the engine runs smoothly. The whole repair including the car sensor came to around 155€. I appreciate the help!

Yep, sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series. Check engine light, reduced power... It turned out to be the same intake air temperature sensor. A diagnostic tool pointed right to it. Is the air temperature reading totally off?
