Mercedes M Klasse Diesel Jerking Problem Solved

My 2001 Mercedes M Klasse diesel is driving me insane It's got kilometers on the clock and recently it started jerking when I accelerate The check engine light is on, and the error memory says something about the car manifold I've noticed reduced engine power, and sometimes it even stalls at idle Plus, the engine runs rough, and there's a strong exhaust smell I suspect a car manifold leak due to scorching Could a faulty manifold sensor be the cause

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Mercedes M Klasse diesel was experiencing jerking during acceleration, reduced engine power, rough running, stalling at idle, and a strong exhaust smell. The check engine light indicated an issue with the intake manifold, suspected to be a leak possibly due to scorching. A vacuum leak or a faulty manifold sensor was considered as potential causes. After consulting a mechanic, it was confirmed that a defective intake manifold with a leak was the issue, which was resolved, restoring smooth operation.

Sounds like a vacuum leak, maybe a gasket leak on the intake manifold Is it throwing any specific codes, or just a general check engine warning If you have a vacuum leak, that would explain the rough running and stalling Have you checked the manifold sensor

Thanks for the reply I don't have the exact codes right now, but it definitely points to the intake manifold Where exactly should I be looking for this vacuum leak Is it something I can check myself, or is it too complicated without special tools

Vacuum leaks can be tricky to find If you're not comfortable with engine work, I'd advise taking it to a workshop Scorched intake manifolds on older diesels can be a common issue A gasket leak is quite possible They can smoke test it to pinpoint the exact location

Appreciate the advice I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on It was indeed a defective intake manifold with a leak, likely due to scorching The final bill was 1180€, parts and labor Ouch But at least it's running smoothly now Thanks again
