Mercedes M Klasse Power Steering Issue

They didn't really say much about the steering pump specifically, just that there was an error code and a possible wiring issue. They didn't seem too sure. Do you think it's worth pushing them to look at the pump more closely, or even the steering rack? I'm just trying to figure out if I'm getting the runaround. Could you share what the issue and fix were with your Fiat?

With the Fiat, it turned out to be the steering rack. But it started with similar symptoms: vibrating, then the power steering went completely. Given they suspect a wiring issue, and the error code, it's worth investigating that first. But if the symptoms persist after fixing the wiring, I'd definitely get them to check the steering pump. Honestly, I'd take it to a trusted workshop. It's always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to steering. I ended up paying a fortune for the repairs because I delayed it.

I took it to the shop, and it turned out that the cable to the power steering was indeed defective, as they suggested. After replacing it, the power steering works perfectly again, and the error message is gone. The total cost was 95€. So it was a cheap fix in the end, and I didn't need a new steering pump or a new steering rack. Thanks again for the help!

Vibrating wheel and spongy handling, huh? Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my old Fiat, though it was a completely different car. Did they check the steering pump itself? It could be something simple like a loose connection as they suggested, but what if the steering rack is failing?
