Mercedes ML Diesel Engine Oil Temperature Warning

My Mercedes ML 2013 diesel is acting up I'm getting an engine oil temperature warning light and the error memory confirms a faulty sensor The oil pressure warning lamp is also lighting up intermittently I suspect a bad connection Has anyone seen this before What's the potential repair cost

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Mercedes ML diesel is experiencing an engine oil temperature warning and intermittent oil pressure warning, likely due to a faulty sensor. The issue may stem from a bad connection or corrupted data from the sensor. A visual inspection of the sensor and its connector is recommended, focusing on potential damage or oil leaks. Ultimately, a visit to a workshop confirmed a faulty temperature sensor and a corroded connector, which were repaired for 95€.

I had a similar issue with my ML, though it's a different engine. Intermittent oil pressure lights combined with a temperature sensor error sounds like the sensor is sending corrupted data. Think of it like a leaky faucet – a small drip can eventually empty the whole tank. The oil pressure light might be a consequence of the faulty temperature reading, confusing the engine management system. Have you checked the sensor itself for any visible damage or oil leaks around the connector? A visual inspection is always the first step. It could save you money.

Thanks for the insight I did a quick visual check, but didn't see anything obvious like oil leaking Where exactly IS the temperature sensor located on the engine I want to give the connector a really good look before I replace parts

The temperature sensor location varies depending on the specific diesel engine in your ML. However, it's typically near the oil filter housing or on the engine block, somewhere where it can directly measure the oil temperature. If you aren't sure, I would recommend going to a workshop to have the error checked. With the right diagnostic tools, they can pinpoint the exact issue and confirm if it's just a faulty sensor or something more serious. It's often worth the peace of mind, especially with oil pressure involved. A good mechanic will check the wiring harness as well.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I took it to the shop, and you were spot on – it was the temperature sensor and a corroded connector. Total cost was 95€ including parts and labor. Appreciate the help!
