Mercedes ML hybrid mass air flow sensor problem

Has anyone else experienced mass air flow sensor issues on a 2010 Mercedes ML hybrid with increased fuel consumption, engine stalling, check engine light, and smoke during acceleration? Diagnostics suggest a failing mass air flow sensor, with an anticipated repair cost of 365€

I have a Mercedes ML, though not a hybrid, and encountered similar issues a while back. Engine stalling and the check engine light were the initial signs. Did you check the air filter? A clogged air filter can sometimes mimic MAF sensor issues and affect the readings. A faulty MAF sensor can definitely throw off your fuel economy and cause engine stalling. What codes are you getting from the check engine light?

I did inspect the air filter, and it appeared to be within acceptable parameters, although not brand new. Regarding the diagnostic codes, could you elaborate on which specific codes you received when you experienced this MAF sensor related problem? I am interested in understanding if the codes pointed directly to the MAF sensor or if there were any ancillary codes that provided additional context

In my case, the code was specifically related to the MAF sensor. Given your symptoms and the fact that you've already checked the air filter, it strongly suggests a MAF sensor issue. I would advise taking it to a qualified workshop for a proper diagnosis and replacement. Ignoring it can lead to further problems.

I appreciate your insight regarding the MAF sensor issue. Following your advice and the diagnostic confirmation from a trusted mechanic, I proceeded with the replacement of the MAF sensor. The total cost amounted to 365€, inclusive of parts and labor. Post-repair, the engine stalling issue has been resolved, fuel economy has returned to its normal range, and the check engine light is no longer illuminated. Thank you again for your help.
