Mercedes R Klasse AC not cooling

My 2006 Mercedes R Klasse with a gasoline engine AC is not cooling. The car has only 46300 km and has been meticulously maintained. When I turn on the AC, nothing happens. The blower motor and fuses seem fine. Could this be a problem with the AC valves? I am expecting a repair cost of around 1000€.

I had a similar issue with my R Klasse. I'm not an expert, but it sounds like the valves could be the problem. Have you checked the refrigerant levels? That fixed it for me. A recharge might be enough.

Is there a way to check refrigerant levels without special equipment? I don't want to do a full evacuation and recharge without knowing. Could a bad pressure switch cause the system to not engage?

You need special equipment to accurately check refrigerant levels. A faulty pressure switch could stop the system from engaging as a safety measure. I suggest taking it to a workshop for AC diagnostics. They can find the problem without wasting money on parts or recharges.

Thanks for the guidance. I will go to a workshop for diagnostics. The diagnosis pointed to malfunctioning valves, and the repair bill is about 1000€. Your experience was right.
