Mercedes R Klasse active air flap fault
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mercedes R Klasse owner experienced an active air flap fault, indicated by a check engine light and engine overheating. The fault code suggested a defective electromechanism as the cause. Another owner confirmed similar symptoms and recommended professional diagnostics. Replacing the electromechanism resolved the issue, turning off the check engine light and addressing the overheating problem.

Yes, the fault code indicates an issue with the active air flap. I suspect the electromechanism is failing. Was this your experience, and did it point to a faulty electromechanism, or was it something else?

Yes, the fault code pointed to the same electromechanism. I would recommend taking it to a workshop. They ran tests and confirmed the diagnosis. It sounds like you are on the right track.

Thanks for the confirmation. I had the electromechanism replaced which cost 590€. The check engine light is now off, and the overheating issue has been resolved.

I own an R Klasse, and I had similar symptoms. I got the check engine light and noticed the car running hotter. Did you check the fault code to confirm it's related to the air flaps?
