Mercedes R Klasse Diesel Engine Trouble

My 2017 Mercedes R Klasse diesel is giving me grief Engine light is on, it feels like I'm driving a tractor, black smoke pours out when I accelerate, and fuel efficiency is terrible I suspect a defective diesel particulate filter Has anyone experienced something similar I'm dreading the vehicle inspection and the potential repair costs

Sounds familiar I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series Symptoms were the same reduced power and smoke It turned out to be a clogged DPF Have you tried DPF cleaning Sometimes that can help, but honestly, if it's seriously gone, a filter replacement is the only real fix

I haven't tried DPF cleaning yet Is it something I can do myself, or is it best left to professionals And how can I be sure it's the DPF and not something else

DPF cleaning kits are available, but honestly, on a Mercedes, I'd advise against DIY unless you're very confident Incorrect cleaning can damage it further Also, other issues can cause similar symptoms A proper diagnostic check is crucial Best bet is to get it checked at a trusted workshop They can confirm the DPF is the issue In my case, after the diagnosis, I needed a filter replacement

I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on defective DPF They quoted me 1550€ for the filter replacement, so I'm going ahead with the repair Hopefully, this will sort it out Appreciate the help
