Mercedes R Klasse Diesel Exhaust Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mercedes R Klasse diesel was experiencing an exhaust back pressure sensor warning, smoke during acceleration, and issues with the DPF not regenerating. The problem was suspected to be a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor, a critical component for emission control. After professional diagnosis and replacement of the sensor, the warning light and smoke issues were resolved, and the DPF began regenerating properly, confirming the sensor as the root cause.

Thanks for the quick reply I haven't checked the sensor readings specifically Where is the sensor located, and is it something I could replace myself without special tools I am trying to avoid a costly repair

I wouldn't recommend replacing it yourself unless you're confident The sensor is usually located near the DPF While it's a simple part, the diagnostic work is best left to a professional If it is the sensor, I believe the eventual repair cost would be around 245€

Thanks for the advice I took it to a workshop, and it was indeed the exhaust back pressure sensor They replaced it, and the warning light is gone, the smoke is gone, and the DPF is regenerating again The total cost was exactly what you estimated I appreciate the help

Sounds familiar I had a similar issue with my R Klasse Same symptoms: warning light, smoke, and DPF problems For me, it was the exhaust sensor It's a key component in emission control, and when it goes bad, it throws everything off Have you checked the sensor's readings with an OBD scanner
