Mercedes R Klasse Diesel Particulate Filter Woes

My 2009 Mercedes R Klasse diesel, with only 54207 km, has developed a cough. The dashboard is lit up with a warning light. I've noticed a lack of power when accelerating, plus it's chucking out smoke and smells bad. It's throwing up 'diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low'. I'm guessing it's probably the exhaust back pressure sensor that's gone, leading to DPF issues and reduced power. Has anyone else had similar particulate filter issues?

Could be the pressure sensor. Though, have you checked for any obvious exhaust leaks? A leak might also cause low pressure readings. Just a thought.

Where exactly should I be looking for these exhaust leaks? Is there a common spot they tend to occur on this engine that I should be aware of? I'm trying to avoid taking it apart without knowing where to look.

Pinpointing exhaust leaks can be tricky without proper equipment. Given the symptoms and the error code, a faulty pressure sensor remains a strong possibility. It's hard to say for sure without a proper diagnosis, so maybe consider a workshop visit.

I suspected as much. Ended up being the pressure sensor as predicted. Part and labour came to 245€. At least the smoke screen has gone.
