Mercedes R Klasse Electronic Parking Brake Fault

My 2005 Mercedes R Klasse diesel is showing an electronic parking brake fault. The handbrake is unresponsive, and there's a warning light on the dash. Diagnostics show a stored error in the parking brake system. With 283027 km on the clock, I suspect the electric motor in the brake calliper. Has anyone else seen this brake fault? Is there an easy fix before I face a 505€ repair involving the brake control system?

Sounds annoying. Electric parking brakes are a pain. Have you checked the brake switch itself? Maybe a faulty switch is sending the wrong signals to the brake control module. Seems like the simplest thing to check first.

Good point about the brake switch. Where is it located, and can I test it without special tools? Or am I wrong to think it's something simple?

I can't say exactly where it is without seeing it. Testing could be hard without the right tools. Given the error code and the motor suspicion, it probably needs a workshop visit. They can pinpoint the problem with the electronic brake system.

Thanks for the input. I took it to a workshop. The electric motor in the calliper was faulty. Replaced it, cleared the error, and it's working again. The 505€ hurt, but at least the vehicle safety is sorted. Thanks for the nudge towards a proper diagnosis.
