Mercedes R Klasse incorrect vehicle coding

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I did try to reset the codes, but the error comes back right away after starting the engine. The scan tool shows a fault code related to the transmission control module, indicating the coding is off. Any thoughts?

Ah, the transmission module coding. Yep, that's the one I had. Resetting won't fix that, trust me. It needs to be recoded, and unfortunately, that's usually a workshop job. Incorrect coding can mess with shift points and all sorts of things. Unless you have access to Mercedes diagnostic software and know your way around it, I'd recommend taking it in. It's not a cheap fix, but better than causing further damage. I bit the bullet and went to a workshop.

Thanks, I appreciate the confirmation. I suspected as much. Took it to the shop, and they recoded the transmission control module. Cost me 360€, but the error is gone now. Thanks again!

I had something similar happen with my R Klasse. Annoying, right? I got the same error message popping up. Did you try resetting the codes after scanning? Sometimes it's a ghost in the machine. But if it comes back immediately, it's a real issue. What specific fault code are you getting? That would help narrow it down.
