Mercedes R Klasse transmission issues
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mercedes R Klasse with a gasoline engine experienced transmission issues, including slipping gears, rough shifting, and grinding noises, accompanied by an engine warning light. Diagnostics indicated a problem with the transmission oil temperature sensor, potentially exacerbated by low gearbox oil levels. The solution involved replacing the faulty sensor and topping up the transmission fluid, which resolved the issues.

The error memory was read. It showed a fault related to the transmission oil temperature sensor, specifically indicating implausible signal. Do you think topping off the gearbox oil could solve it, or am I looking at a bigger transmission repair job?

Topping off the gearbox oil might offer temporary relief, but the 'implausible signal' suggests a deeper issue with the sensor or its wiring. I would recommend consulting a certified workshop to properly diagnose the automatic transmission and address the temperature sensor issue. It is best to have a professional look before things escalate.

I took it to a local shop, and you were right. The sensor was faulty, and the oil was low. A new sensor plus a transmission fluid top-up solved the problem. It cost 365€. Thanks again!

A faulty transmission oil temperature sensor can trigger a cascade of issues, especially if the gearbox oil level is low. I had similar transmission issues with my BMW 5 series. Was the error memory read out? What codes were stored?
