Mercedes R Klasse Transport Mode Issue

A hard reset, you say? That sounds promising. How long should I disconnect the battery for? And will that mess with any other settings, like the alarm or the key fob?

Yes, a hard reset might do the trick! I'd suggest disconnecting the negative terminal for at least 30 minutes to ensure a complete reset. As for messing with other settings, it could affect things like your radio presets or require you to re-sync your key fob. But honestly, given the severity of your 'transport mode' issue, it's a small price to pay if it resolves the problem. However, if you're uncomfortable doing it yourself, my strongest advice is to take it to a workshop with Mercedes automotive diagnostic equipment. They can properly deactivate transport mode and ensure everything is working as it should be.

Right, I understand. I'll give the reset a shot, but I'm not holding my breath. Sounds like a trip to the shop is inevitable. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. It's going in this week, they said it was a simple software issue and it was deactivated for 0€.

I hear your frustration! I had a similar headache with my Mercedes R Klasse, although it was a different year. 'Transport mode' is a real pain! It's a car configuration setting manufacturers use to protect the battery during shipping. It disables certain electrical systems to save power. Usually, the dealer deactivates it before delivery. It sounds like yours slipped through the cracks. Did you try a hard reset? Disconnecting the battery for a bit might work. Otherwise, you'll probably need to take it in for a proper diagnostic check with someone who knows Mercedes well and can access the car's computer.
