Mercedes S Klasse ABS and Traction Control Problems

My 2000 Mercedes S Klasse diesel is throwing an ABS light and traction control is going nuts. I'm getting speed signal fault codes. The odometer and speedometer are both acting up, so I'm guessing it's more than just a sensor. Could this be a transmission control unit malfunction?

I experienced a similar issue with my S Klasse. The ABS light illuminated intermittently, and the speedometer exhibited erratic behavior. Have you had the input speed sensor checked? That was the source of my woes.

Interesting. Where exactly is that input speed sensor located? And was the ABS system completely failing for you as well? I'm trying to get a handle on if the control unit is really the issue.

Yes, the ABS functionality was indeed impaired. It's located on the transmission, where it reads the transmission output shaft speed. However, considering the symptoms you described and the potential control unit issue, I would recommend taking it to a qualified workshop for a diagnostic assessment. It's better to be sure before spending money.

I appreciate the insight. It ended up being a defective control unit, just as suspected. It cost me around 1000€ to sort it. Thanks again!
