Mercedes S Klasse Diesel Camshaft Sensor Issue

My 2017 Mercedes S Klasse diesel is showing signs of a possible camshaft sensor issue. At 110995 km, it has poor starting, reduced power, and an error code. I suspect a cable or plug defect. Has anyone seen similar crankshaft or camshaft sensor failure, maybe with rough idling, misfires, or timing problems? Trying to get some ideas before a potential 95€ repair.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had similar rough idling and engine misfire drama with my old Vauxhall Astra. Turned out to be a dodgy crankshaft sensor. Made the car run like a bag of nails!

Thanks for the reply. Can you share more about the symptoms you saw with your Astra? Did diagnostic codes point right to the crankshaft sensor, or was it a guess based on how it ran?

Yeah, the diagnostic codes were all over the place, timing issues and whatnot. Eventually, the mechanic suspected the crankshaft sensor. I would say it's best to get it checked in a workshop to be sure

Thanks for sharing your experience. It helped confirm what I thought. It was a bad camshaft sensor connection, like I first thought. I fixed the connection and cleared the error. The car runs fine now. Thanks again.
