Wow, that's exactly what I'm seeing! So, it really could be just the MAF sensor causing all of this? Was your car also smoking on acceleration? And what about the fuel consumption? Did you notice a big difference before and after replacing the sensor?

Indeed. The smoking upon acceleration, coupled with the other symptoms, strongly suggests a MAF sensor problem. I recommend you have the car diagnosed professionally to confirm the sensor's failure before replacement. Ignoring these symptoms for too long can create further issues. It is best to take it to a competent mechanic.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you! I took your advice and had the car checked out by a mechanic. Turns out, it was indeed the mass air flow sensor. They replaced it, and the total cost was around 365€. The engine is no longer stalling, the check engine light is off, and the fuel consumption seems to be back to normal. No more smoke either! You saved me a ton of worry!

The symptoms you describe, particularly the engine stalling, increased fuel consumption, and the check engine light, are consistent with a mass air flow (MAF) sensor failure. In my experience with the S Klasse, a faulty MAF sensor can disrupt the air-fuel ratio, leading to performance issues similar to what you are experiencing. I had a similar issue and it did present as engine stalling and check engine warnings.
