Mercedes S Klasse Hybrid Transmission Issues

My beloved Mercedes S Klasse hybrid built in is throwing a tantrum The transmission is acting up something fierce I can't shift with the paddle shifters, the gearbox slips and shifts roughly, and there's this awful grinding noise when it does shift It's like the paddle shifters are taking a vacation, so slow to respond Now it's stuck in emergency mode, and the error memory is full of complaints I fear the transmission control unit is defective Am I looking at serious transmission repair bills or is this an easy fix

Ouch, that sounds rough I had similar automatic gearbox problems with my old BMW 5 series The symptoms sound eerily familiar – the slipping, the rough shifts, the emergency mode Could be electronic issues or something deeper Any idea what error codes are stored Did you check the transmission fluid level Low fluid can cause havoc Also, has the transmission fluid ever been changed These gearboxes are sensitive And is it only happening in certain gears, or all of them

Thanks I haven't checked the error codes myself I'm not really sure how I didn't check the transmission fluid either, as I am not sure where to locate the dipstick But when you had similar gearbox issues, was it the control unit too

Yep, it turned out to be the transmission control unit on my Beemer The mechanic said it's a common problem, especially with the older models He suspected a faulty sensor inside the unit causing all the mayhem Best bet is to get those error codes read – most auto parts stores will do it for free That'll give you a clearer picture But honestly, with those symptoms, a visit to a trusted workshop is probably in order A transmission repair isn't something you want to mess with unless you really know your stuff For me it was about 800€, so your 1000€ estimate is in the ballpark

Thanks so much I took it to my local workshop, and they confirmed it's the transmission control unit They're quoting me just under 1000€ for the repair Hopefully, this sorts out all of the gearbox issues I appreciate the advice
