Mercedes S Klasse Intake Leak
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Mercedes S Klasse exhibited increased fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a hissing sound during acceleration, suggesting a possible air intake leak. The suspected cause was a compromised intake hose, which could potentially lead to engine misfire and turbocharger issues if left unaddressed. A workshop inspection confirmed the intake hose leak, and replacing the hose resolved the fuel economy issue.

The hissing sound is most pronounced during acceleration, becoming less noticeable at constant speeds Given this additional information, does your assessment remain consistent with the possibility of an intake leak

Yes, the fact that the hissing is more prominent during acceleration further supports the likelihood of an intake leak The engine is drawing in more air, exacerbating the leak While you might be able to pinpoint it yourself with some careful listening and perhaps a smoke test, I would advise consulting a workshop to confirm and rectify the issue Ignoring it could lead to further complications

I took your suggestion and had the vehicle inspected at a workshop The diagnosis confirmed a leak in the intake hose The hose was replaced, and the total repair cost was 100€ The increased fuel economy issue is now resolved

I had a similar experience with my BMW 5 series The symptoms you describe align with a common intake leak scenario A hissing sound coupled with increased fuel consumption is quite indicative While it could potentially affect the turbocharger in the long run, the immediate concern is addressing the leak itself Is the hissing sound constant, or only during acceleration
