Mercedes S Klasse Transfer Case Limp Mode

My Mercedes S Klasse diesel is acting strangely. I'm getting a 'transfer case limp mode active' message, the gearbox feels like it's slipping, and the shifts are clunky. Has anyone else experienced something similar with a 2008 diesel?

Mine was throwing diagnostic trouble codes. It ended up being related to the ABS system messing with the transfer case. The best thing to do is get it to a workshop that knows these cars. They can run a proper diagnostic. It is worth risking more damage by ignoring it?

Thanks, you were spot on. It turns out it was a fault in the ABS system, which then caused a bunch of consequential problems. I got it sorted under warranty, so it cost me nothing.
