Mercedes SL brake light issue
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Mercedes SL had a brake light issue, with the brake lights not working and an error message on the infotainment system. A diagnostic reader indicated a faulty brake light switch. The problem was confirmed by a workshop, where the switch was replaced quickly under warranty, resolving the issue without cost. The situation highlights the sensitivity of automotive switches and the importance of professional diagnosis and repair, especially for critical systems like brakes.

Interesting A sensitive automotive switch I don't remember the exact error code, but it definitely pointed to the brake light switch being faulty Is it something I could potentially replace myself, or am I risking making things worse

Okay, so if the code pointed to the switch, that's good As for doing it yourself, messing with the braking system is never a great idea unless you really know what you are doing Since your car is relatively new, and especially because it's a Mercedes, I would honestly suggest taking it to a workshop They can diagnose it properly and ensure the new switch is correctly installed and calibrated If it was just a blown fuse, I'd say go for it, but brakes are pretty critical

You were spot on I took it to the workshop, and it was indeed just the brake light switch They said something about it being a known issue and they replaced it in like 10 minutes under warranty, so 0€ cost for me Thanks for the advice I was so worried something major was failing

Whoa, that sounds familiar I had a similar issue with my old Volvo The symptoms were almost identical Turns out, automotive switches can be super sensitive The mechanic initially suspected a wiring issue, but it ended up just being the brake light switch itself Do you know what the specific error code is Knowing that might help narrow it down
