Mercedes SL Fuel Consumption and Power Loss

My 2002 Mercedes SL with a gasoline engine is acting up. I'm experiencing higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and it sometimes stalls at idle. There's also some smoke when accelerating. The car has low mileage. I suspect a faulty injection system. Maybe a bad cable or plug connection? Is this a common maintenance issue?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old Opel Corsa, though it was a diesel. Power loss and rough idling. Check your cable connections and plugs associated with the injection system. Could be a simple leak.

You mentioned checking cable connections. Did your Corsa throw any specific error codes, or was it just trial and error to find the culprit?

No codes, it was visual. A mechanic spotted a cracked connector on one of the fuel injectors. Replacing it solved the issue. Honestly, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They can diagnose it properly.

Thanks for the info. Turns out it was a defective plug connection, just as I suspected. The workshop charged me 95€ to fix it. Power is back and the smoke is gone.
