Mercedes SL oil pressure issue and engine noises

Interesting. A blocked oil strainer... I hadn't considered that. Where exactly is that strainer located? And how would I check it? As for oil viscosity, I just used the recommended engine oil during the oil change. Can't say I checked the exact specs though. Is there a good way to verify that?

Honestly, I wouldn't know how to check the strainer on your Merc, I just remember my mechanic talking about it on my car. It's somewhere in the oil pan if I recall. But if the light's on and you're hearing noises, and you’re not 100% sure on the oil viscosity, I wouldn’t risk driving it. I'd get it to a workshop pronto. Seriously, I ignored mine for too long and ended up with a much bigger bill!

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm not taking any chances. Booked it in with the workshop. Turns out it was indeed the oil pump. New one fitted and all is good. Cost me about 755€, ouch! Thanks for the nudge in the right direction!

Oh man, that sounds rough. I had something similar happen with my old Fiat, although it wasn't quite a Merc! The oil pressure light kept flickering, and it turned out to be a blocked oil strainer in the sump. Could also be oil leakage. Is your oil viscosity correct? I’m no expert, but could that be the issue maybe?
