Mercedes SLC Diesel Transmission Issue Resolved
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Mercedes SLC diesel was experiencing transmission issues, including an engine warning light, error codes related to the transmission oil temperature sensor, and symptoms like slipping gears and grinding noises. The core problem was suspected to be low transmission oil, which can cause such symptoms. The suggested solution was to check and top up the transmission oil, which resolved the issue, leading to smooth gear shifting and cleared error codes.

Thanks for the insight. When you had the issue, were the symptoms constant, or did they come and go? And was it definitely the oil level in your case? I'm trying to gauge how urgent this is.

In my case, the symptoms were intermittent at first, becoming more frequent over time. And yes, a low transmission oil level was indeed the root cause. Given the potential for further damage to the automatic transmission, I would advise against prolonged driving in this condition. It would be wise to have a qualified workshop inspect the transmission oil level and perform a diagnostic check. Ignoring it could lead to more costly transmission repair down the line.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. Transmission oil level was low. They topped it up and cleared the error codes. Cost me 365€. Gear shifting is smooth again. Thanks!

I experienced similar transmission issues with my SLC, though I cannot confirm the exact error code. Slipping and unclean gear shifting, combined with the warning light, does suggest potential transmission problems. A low gearbox oil level is a plausible cause. Think of it like this: the oil is the lifeblood of your transmission, and if it's low, things aren't going to run smoothly. I would suggest checking the oil level first. However, be aware that accessing the transmission oil fill point can be tricky on these cars.
