Mercedes V Klasse AdBlue Error

My 2000 Mercedes V Klasse diesel is showing an AdBlue error The service light is on and the display says the AdBlue tank is empty, but it's not The engine won't start I suspect it's the AdBlue output from the tank to the injection system Has anyone experienced this I'm trying to avoid a big repair bill

Summary of the thread

A 2000 Mercedes V Klasse diesel is experiencing an AdBlue error, with the service light on and a display indicating an empty AdBlue tank, despite it being full. The engine won't start, leading to a suspicion of an issue with the AdBlue output to the injection system. A faulty sensor or a defective DEF fluid pump are suggested as possible causes. The problem was resolved by replacing a faulty DEF fluid pump at a workshop, restoring the vehicle's functionality.

That sounds familiar I have a Mercedes V Klasse too, though it's not that old I had a similar issue with the DEF fluid system a while back The error message was the same Did you check the error memory for a specific code It could be a faulty sensor rather than the whole injection system Although, a defective output sounds plausible You might want to double-check the basics before assuming the worst

I did check the error memory, and there's a code related to the AdBlue system, but I can't remember the number A faulty sensor makes sense Where is the sensor located, and is it easy to get to I'm willing to try if it saves me a trip to the shop Could this be related to fuel efficiency I did notice it went down a bit before this started

The sensor's usually near the tank or along the line to the dosing unit Unless you're comfortable with the injection system, I wouldn't mess with it too much You could make things worse About the fuel efficiency, it could be related, but it's hard to say for sure The AdBlue system is linked to the engine management, so a fault there could impact fuel consumption I'd recommend taking it to a workshop It might be a sensor, but it could also be a blocked injector or something more serious I spent a lot of time trying to fix mine before taking it in

I took it to a shop as you suggested It was a faulty DEF fluid pump, like you suspected It cost about 260€ to get it sorted including the pump At least it's running again Thanks for your help
