Mercedes V Klasse Cruise Control Problem

Thanks for the tips I didn't actually use a multimeter on the brake light switch, I only visually confirmed the brake lights were working So, you're saying even if the lights work, the switch itself could still be faulty and send the wrong signal to the ECU That's a good point And regarding the fuses, I only checked the ones that seemed related Is there a specific fuse number I should be looking for that controls the cruise control system, or is it more likely to be a fuse shared with other systems I really don't want to start randomly probing around with a multimeter if I can avoid it

Yes, exactly The brake light switch can be faulty even if the lights are working It's a dual-circuit switch, and one circuit might be failing while the other is still functional for the lights Regarding the fuse, there isn't always a dedicated fuse solely for the cruise control It's often integrated into another system The best bet is to get the fault code read properly with a Mercedes-specific diagnostic tool That will pinpoint the issue much more accurately It sounds like you've done some basic checks, but without the specific fault code, you're just guessing Based on your description and the error memory, a defective cable or plug connection to the cruise control component sounds plausible A workshop visit might be necessary to diagnose it properly Considering the age of the vehicle and the potential for more complex issues, it is advisable

Thanks a lot for your help You were right, I bit the bullet and took it to a local independent Mercedes specialist They hooked it up to their diagnostic system and confirmed it was a faulty connection They re-pinned the connector and tested everything, and the cruise control is now working perfectly again The total bill was 95€, so not too bad in the end I appreciate you steering me in the right direction

That's a common issue with these vans You've checked the brake light switch, which is good But have you actually checked it with a multimeter to see if it's sending the correct signal to the ECU A faulty signal, even with working brake lights, can disable the cruise control Also, the speed sensor is a good shout, but usually a faulty speed sensor will cause other issues as well, like problems with the ABS or ESP Regarding the steering wheel controls and clock spring, those are also possibilities, but less likely unless you've noticed other problems with the steering wheel buttons or the horn Has the horn been working normally And you mentioned checking the fuse box – did you check all the fuses, or just the ones that you thought were related to the cruise control It's worth checking them all, just to be sure
