Mercedes V Klasse Engine Issues Resolved

My 2006 Mercedes V Klasse with a gasoline engine is giving me trouble. It's done 232410 km. I think the MAF sensor is bad. Fuel economy is terrible, it sometimes cuts out at idle, the check engine light is on, and it smokes a lot when I accelerate. I recently changed the air filter, but that didn't fix it. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Could it be the MAF sensor?

Sounds like a classic MAF sensor failure. Have you scanned for any fault codes? What brand MAF sensor are you planning on using?

Yes, I scanned it and it gave a code for the MAF sensor. I was hoping it might be something else. Does the brand of the MAF sensor really matter? Are some brands bad?

If the code says MAF and your symptoms match, it's likely the MAF. Some aftermarket sensors can be unreliable. I'd suggest getting a decent brand. If you want to save time and effort, just take it to a workshop.

I took it to a local mechanic, they confirmed it was the MAF and replaced it. It cost 365€ total. It runs great now, no more smoke and the engine isn't stalling. Fuel economy seems normal again.
