Mercedes Viano Camshaft Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Mercedes Viano with 176,000 km is experiencing rough starts, reduced power, and a check engine light, indicating a camshaft sensor error. The owner suspects a faulty wire or plug connection rather than a more severe timing issue. After consulting a workshop, it was confirmed that the problem was indeed a defective cable or plug connection to the camshaft sensor, which was repaired for 95€.

Well, is there anything else that would cause that camshaft position error and all those symptoms? I am hoping it isn't something more serious than a faulty connector.

Could be other things, sure. But if you're not 100% certain, and you're already seeing those symptoms, maybe save yourself the headache and get it checked at a workshop? They can pinpoint the exact issue instead of you guessing and potentially making it worse. Could save you money in the long run.

Thanks, man. I took your advice and went to a workshop. Turns out it was indeed a defective cable or plug connection to the camshaft sensor like I suspected, they fixed it for about 95€. At least it wasn't timing issues or a completely gone sensor!

Hmm, sensor failure on a Mercedes, eh? Reminds me of the time I had stalling engine problems with my old Opel Astra. What makes you think it's the cable or plug connection?
