Mercedes Viano central locking and starting issues

Mercedes Viano central locking and starting problems on a 2013 gasoline engine model The central locking acts up and the engine only starts with the key in the ignition Error memory mentions the bumper antenna Could a faulty radio signal be the problem I suspect a defective cable or plug connection on the antenna mount

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Mercedes Viano experienced central locking and starting issues, with the engine only starting when the key was in the ignition. The error memory indicated a problem with the bumper antenna, suggesting a faulty radio signal might be the cause. It was suspected that a defective cable or plug connection on the antenna mount could be responsible. After inspection, it was confirmed that a corroded connector on the bumper antenna was the issue, and replacing the connector resolved the problem.

I have encountered a similar predicament with my Mercedes Vito The symptoms you describe, particularly the intermittent central locking and the key-in-ignition requirement for starting, strongly suggest an issue with the vehicle antenna system The fm antenna module, often located within the bumper or integrated into the car antenna, is crucial for receiving signals related to keyless entry and ignition authorization Before assuming a faulty cable or connector, I would recommend a thorough inspection of the antenna mount itself for any signs of physical damage or corrosion Have you checked the antenna connection

Thanks for the input I haven't had a chance to really dig into the antenna mount yet Where exactly is it located Is it easily accessible, or do I need to remove the bumper skin to get to it

In my case, the antenna was indeed behind the bumper cover Accessing it required removing the bumper, which can be somewhat involved depending on your mechanical aptitude and the specific model year Given the potential complexity and the interplay between the antenna, central locking, and ignition systems, a diagnostic session at a reputable workshop might prove more efficient in pinpointing the precise source of the radio signal disruption

Following your advice, I took it to a workshop Turns out it was indeed a corroded connector on the bumper antenna They replaced the connector, and everything is working perfectly now The repair cost me 95€ Thanks again for your help
