Mercedes Viano Engine Issue

I'm having some trouble with my 2020 Mercedes Viano with a gasoline engine It's got about 235090 km on the clock Lately, the engine's been running really rough, and it even stalls sometimes when I'm idling The check engine light is on, and I'm also experiencing some pretty noticeable jerking when I accelerate I suspect a defective ignition coil I have checked all the basics and I am leaning towards a defective cable or plug connection Anyone else run into something similar

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Mercedes Viano with a gasoline engine was experiencing rough running, stalling, a check engine light, and jerking during acceleration. The initial suspicion was a defective ignition coil or a faulty cable or plug connection. After scanning the OBD system, a misfire on cylinder 3 was identified, confirming the ignition coil issue. The problem was resolved by replacing the ignition coil, resulting in the engine running smoothly again.

I understand your situation The symptoms you describe – rough running, engine stalling, check engine light, and jerking under acceleration – are indeed indicative of a misfire, which can often be traced back to an ignition coil issue From my experience, a defective cable or plug connection is a very likely cause, as you mentioned I had an almost identical issue with my old BMW 3 series In that instance, the issue was related to the coil pack Have you scanned the OBD system to check for specific error codes This would allow you to confirm if there is a specific cylinder that is the source of the misfire

Yes, I did scan the OBD system, and it's showing a misfire on cylinder 3 Could that still be related to the ignition coil, even if it's just one cylinder that's misfiring Like you said, it could be the cable or plug, how did you find out what the problem was on your BMW

Yes, a misfire on a single cylinder certainly points towards a potential issue with the corresponding ignition coil, or its associated wiring Think of it like a chain – if one link is weak, the whole chain suffers The error code confirms that cylinder 3 is the source of the problem In the instance of my BMW, I systematically tested each coil pack, swapping them between cylinders to see if the misfire followed the coil If you lack specialized diagnostic equipment, I would advise taking your Mercedes to a trusted workshop The technician can then confirm your diagnosis, and install a replacement ignition coil if required The repair cost shouldn't be exorbitant

I took it to the workshop as you suggested Turns out it was indeed the ignition coil on cylinder 3, just like the error code said They replaced it, and the engine is running smoothly again The total cost came to 95€, which was less than I expected Appreciate the help
