Good analogy So you reckon the wiring is the most likely culprit Is it easy enough to get to the wiring harness to check it over, or is it buried deep within the tailgate trim

Wiring is definitely worth a look first, it's often the simplest and cheapest fix Accessing the harness usually involves removing some of the interior trim panels on the tailgate It's not rocket science, but take your time and be careful not to break any of the plastic clips If you're not comfortable doing that, it might be worth taking it to a workshop I ended up doing that myself in the end They charged me 95€ to fix it

Cheers for the advice I had a look at the wiring like you suggested, but couldn't see anything obvious Ended up taking it to a workshop and they found a broken wire in the harness, just like you said 95€ later and the tailgate is working perfectly again Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction

Hall sensor fault on the tailgate sounds familiar I've got a Vito and I had a similar issue with my power tailgate a while back If I remember correctly, the hall sensor is part of the tailgate motor assembly Before you start replacing parts, have you checked the wiring harness that runs to the tailgate Especially where it flexes when you open and close the tailgate Those wires can get brittle and break over time, causing intermittent sensor faults Think of it like a garden hose that kinks - water still gets through, but not as efficiently
