Mercedes X Klasse AC Issue

My 2018 Mercedes X Klasse diesel is acting up It has 104328 km on it and I keep getting an error about the heat exchanger temperature sensor being defective The dash lights are on and the AC won't turn on I suspect the AC control unit Has anyone seen this before Is it a faulty sensor calibration or a bigger HVAC system problem

Thanks The error code is P0500 I checked the wiring but not inside the connector The temperature gauge seems normal What should I check next Should I try a sensor calibration reset

I took your advice and got it checked at a shop You were right about the temperature sensor and the AC unit The sensor was bad and it damaged the control unit The bill was about 980€ but the AC is working again Thanks for the help
