Mercedes X Klasse Diesel Battery Issues

My 2020 Mercedes X Klasse diesel is showing some weird symptoms. It's done 188914 km. The battery seems weak when starting, and the lights are flickering sometimes. Could this be a bad battery? I checked the battery charge and it seems low. Could it be a defective battery sensor causing this? I read something about low voltage issues on these. Is it worth checking the battery health?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my X Klasse. Weak starting, flickering lights… it does sound like the battery sensor. Have you checked the battery terminals for corrosion? A bad connection can cause all sorts of weirdness and mess with the battery charge readings. If the terminals are clean, it very well could be that the sensor is giving false readings and preventing the car battery from charging properly.

Thanks, that's helpful! I did clean the terminals, but it didn't really change anything. So, if it's the battery sensor, is it something I can replace myself, or am I better off taking it to a workshop? I'm okay with basic car battery maintenance, but sensors sound a bit more complicated.

While you could try replacing the battery sensor yourself, honestly, it's probably best to take it to a workshop. It's not just about swapping the part; you often need to reset the car's computer afterwards. Plus, a proper diagnostic will confirm if it really is the sensor. I ended up paying around 315€ for the sensor replacement including labor. Peace of mind is worth something. If your car battery is constantly showing low voltage, it is better to get it fixed sooner rather than later.

Okay, thanks a lot for the advice! I'll book it in at the workshop then. It's good to know what to expect with the cost, too. Hopefully, a new sensor will sort it out and keep my car battery healthy. I appreciate the help!
