Mercedes X Klasse diesel engine issue

My 2018 Mercedes X Klasse with a diesel engine is acting up. The check engine light is on, it feels like it has lost power, and it seems to be using a lot more fuel. I scanned it and it says there is a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be a simple fix, or a major repair?

That sounds familiar. I had something similar happen with my Mercedes. It wasn't an X Klasse, but the heat sensor went bad, and the symptoms were almost the same. Have you checked for any exhaust system leaks? That can sometimes interfere with the readings from the emission control system.

Exhaust system leaks? Where should I look for those? Can I check it myself, or should I take it to a workshop?

It can be hard to find them without the right tools. Listen for hissing sounds when the engine is running. You might see soot buildup around the leak. If you're not comfortable going under the car, I'd take it to a workshop. It could save you trouble, especially with the temperature sensor. They can also diagnose if the leak is causing the problem, or if the sensor itself is bad.

Thanks for the tip! I took it to a workshop, and you were right. There was a small exhaust system leak near the temperature sensor. They replaced the sensor and fixed the leak. It cost me 265€, but it's running well now. I appreciate the help!
