Mercedes X Klasse Diesel fuel pump problem
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Mercedes X Klasse diesel is experiencing fuel pump issues, with symptoms including failure to start, stalling at idle, rough engine performance, and increased fuel consumption. The problem is suspected to be related to a faulty connection in the fuel system, possibly a cable or plug. A similar issue was resolved by checking and cleaning the fuel pump relays and connections, suggesting that a loose or corroded relay or plug might be the cause. It is recommended to use professional diagnostic tools to accurately identify the issue, which could also involve the fuel pump, filter, or ECU.

Sounds rough. I had similar symptoms with my Mercedes X Klasse, though it's a newer model. My engine was cutting out randomly, and the fuel injector light came on too. After scratching my head for ages, I checked all the fuel system relays and fuses. Turns out, a relay was corroded. Have you checked those?

Cheers for the tip! Which relay was it exactly, and where is it located? Did you get any specific fault codes related to the fuel pump or fuel injector before you found the corroded relay? Just trying to narrow down the possibilities before I start pulling the car apart. I'd rather not start messing with the fuel injector just yet!

I can't remember the exact number, but it was one of the fuel pump relays in the engine bay fuse box. To be honest, I'd get it to a workshop with proper automotive diagnosis tools. They can check the fuel pressure and pinpoint the exact cause. Could be a faulty fuel pump itself, a blocked fuel filter, or even a problem with the ECU. It's worth the money to avoid chasing ghosts. Right you are. I had a look at the fuel pump connections and found a loose plug. Gave it a clean and a proper push, and the car started right up! The error code is gone and she seems to be running smoothly now. Turns out a defective cable or plug connection of the component was the issue. Cost me 95€ for the code reading and a bit of contact cleaner. Thanks for the help anyway!

I am having a proper headache with my 2017 Mercedes X Klasse diesel. The thing has 211810 km on the clock and now the fuel pump seems to have given up. Engine won't start, and when it does, it stalls at idle. The check engine light is illuminated, and the engine is running rough. I am also seeing higher fuel consumption than usual. I hooked it up to a reader and it's throwing fuel pump error codes. I am suspecting a dodgy connection somewhere in the fuel system, maybe a cable or a plug. Has anyone else had similar grief with their fuel pump? Any ideas before I start ripping things apart? I am trying to avoid main dealer prices if I can!
