Mercedes X Klasse electronic brake failure

Having a proper mare with my 2018 Mercedes X Klasse diesel model, clocked 148705 km. The electronic brake has completely given up the ghost! Warning light's on, and the system's throwing an error. I reckon the electric motor in the brake calliper is the culprit. Workshop quoted 505€ which seems steep. Has anyone else had this happen with their electronic brake system? Any thoughts on troubleshooting?

Blimey! Seems you're in the same boat I was a while back with my X Klasse. Had the exact same symptoms electronic brake failure, warning lights the whole shebang. Did you happen to check the brake control module? I'm no expert, but it's worth a look before shelling out serious dosh.

Cheers for the reply. Brake control module, eh? Where exactly is that located, and is it something I can check myself with basic tools, or do I need specialist gear? What's the best way to test it?

Alright, so from what I remember, the brake control module is somewhere near the rear axle, but don't quote me on that! Honestly, unless you are really confident with electrics, I'd suggest getting a professional to take a look. Brake failure is not something to mess with. From the symptoms you mentioned, and if the error memory points to calliper motor, it is likely the motor is defective, so maybe the workshop quote is fair after all.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a trusted workshop. Turns out, you were spot on. The electric motor in the brake calliper was indeed defective. They replaced it, cleared the error codes, and now the parking brake is working perfectly again. The 505€ was the right price too. Much appreciated!
