Hey, thanks for sharing that, sounds exactly like what happened to my Freelander! My oil pump failed too, and yeah, those metal bits in the oil are definitely something you don't want to see. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix? Just curious cause I had a few small issues pop up later and wondering if that's common. Really appreciate the help!

Hey again! Glad I could help out earlier. Just wanted to follow up since you asked, I got everything sorted with my LR2 and thought you'd like to know how it went. The repair cost me 625 € total, which covered replacing the faulty oil pump and cleaning out all that contamination from the engine. Since then, it's been running like a dream, no more scary noises or warning lights! Honestly, such a relief after all that stress. It's actually been super smooth sailing since I got it fixed. I was worried like you about potential issues popping up afterward, but nope, nothing to report! I think getting it sorted quickly before it could cause more damage really helped. Just make sure you find a mechanic who really knows their Land Rovers. Getting it done right the first time saves so much hassle in the long run. Trust me, it's worth every penny to have that peace of mind! Let me know how yours turns out, always interested to hear how fellow Land Rover owners are doing with their repairs!

Thanks for all that info! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my Freelander. Finally got the courage to take it to a new mechanic I found through a. You were spot on about the oil pump! Had it fixed last week and what a difference! The repair was a bit pricey, came to about 800 with parts and labor. They also found some wear on the bearings that needed sorting. The mechanic was super honest though, showed me all the damaged parts and explained everything. The best part? No more scary noises or warning lights! I've been driving it for a week now and it feels like a completely different car. Such a relief to have it sorted properly. Guess it really pays to find a trustworthy mechanic who knows what they're doing. Really appreciate all your advice, helped me make the right call getting it fixed right away instead of waiting. Time to enjoy my newly restored Freelander!

Hey there! I had very similar issues with my 2010 Land Rover LR2 last year. Those metal shavings in the oil are definitely a red flag, reminds me of my situation. In my case, it turned out to be a failing oil pump that was causing insufficient lubrication, which led to metal debris from engine components grinding against each other. The symptoms were exactly like yours, hot engine, warning lights, and that awful grinding noise. Got it fixed at the garage and it was quite a serious repair job. They had to replace the oil pump, clean out the entire oil system, and repair some damaged bearings. Took them three days to complete everything. Don't wait on this one, those symptoms together usually mean internal engine damage is already happening. The longer you drive it, the worse (and more extensive) the damage will get. I'd suggest getting it to a certified Land Rover mechanic ASAP. This isn't something you want to trust to just any general repair shop.
