Metal Shavings & Oil Pressure: GrandlandX Warning Signs
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Vauxhall GrandlandX owner discovered metal shavings in the oil and experienced flickering oil pressure and warning lights. The initial suspicion was a faulty oil pressure switch, but similar cases suggested more severe issues like worn bearings. The recommended course of action was to seek a proper diagnostic test from a certified Vauxhall dealer to accurately identify the problem. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed to be worn bearings, requiring a comprehensive repair, including an oil system flush and bearing replacement, to resolve the warning signs and restore the vehicle's performance.

Thanks that's really helpful info. Pretty much exactly what happened with my car too, those warning lights drove me crazy! I managed to get it sorted, but I'm curious, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair job set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Always good to know what to watch out for with these things.

Hey again! Actually, I've got some good news to share, my situation turned out to be less serious than I initially thought! After taking it to a proper Vauxhall mechanic, they discovered it was just a defective oil pressure switch causing all that drama with the warning lights. Much simpler fix than what I was worried about with my 2020 Crossland X. The total bill came to 175.00 €, they had to drain out some incorrect engine oil that my previous mechanic had put in and replace it with the right stuff, plus sort out that faulty pressure switch. Since then, my car's been running like a dream! No more flickering lights, no weird noises, nothing. It's been about a year now and honestly, I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Glad you got yours sorted too! These Vauxhalls can be tricky sometimes, but once you find a decent mechanic who knows what they're doing, it makes all the difference. Just keep an eye on those oil levels and you should be good to go!

thanks for sharing your experience! You won't believe it, but I just got back from the mechanic today. Turns out my situation was a bit more complicated than yours. The metal shavings were coming from a worn bearing, just like you mentioned in your first message. Had to shell out about 800€ for the whole job, they replaced the bearings, did an oil system flush, and fixed a couple of other bits while they were at it. Found this great mechanic through a 's recommendation, proper Vauxhall specialist who didn't try to upsell me on unnecessary stuff. Been driving it for a few hours now and it feels like a different car! No more flickering lights, and the engine's running smoother than it has in ages. Really appreciate you sharing your story, helped me understand what I might be dealing with. Even though my repair was more extensive than yours, at least I knew what questions to ask the mechanic. Thanks again for all the help!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2020 Vauxhall Crossland X diesel last year. Metal shavings in the oil along with flickering warning lights usually points to something more serious than just an oil pressure switch. In my case, it turned out to be worn-out bearings that were causing metal particles to circulate through the engine. Took it to my local garage, and they had to do a full oil system flush, replace the bearings, and install a new oil pump. The metal particles had started to damage other engine components too. It was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention to prevent complete engine failure. Don't want to scare you, but I'd strongly suggest getting it checked ASAP. The warning lights and metal shavings combination isn't something to ignore. Based on my experience, it's worth getting a proper diagnostic test done at a certified Vauxhall dealer first. They'll be able to pinpoint exactly what's causing the problem. Hope this helps.
